Petra BuchananASTRA CEO

It is well known that the subscription TV (STV) sector in Australia attracts talent because of its progressive outlook.  Those involved in the industry are not only free to innovate, but to take risks, utilise the latest technologic advances and develop relationships with subscribers that cannot be achieved through a purely commercial advertising based model.

Each year the ASTRA Industry Excellence Awards recognise the outstanding achievements of those involved in the promotion and innovation of STV.  The awards, which are judged by a panel of senior STV marketing specialists, acknowledge the talents of a wide cross section of the industry including operators, production houses, media, advertising and creative agencies.

Finalists have now been announced for a number of categories that include: platform marketing: Most Outstanding Marketing Campaign for Subscription Sales or Subscriber Retention/Extension and Most Outstanding Use of STV for a Consumer Advertising Campaign program and channel promotion: Most Outstanding On-Air Program Promotion, Most Outstanding Off-Air Program Promotion, Most Outstanding Channel Image Spot, Most Outstanding Multi-Media Production, Most Outstanding PR/Communications Campaign, Most Outstanding Marketing Campaign Under $50,000 and technology: Most Outstanding Use of Technology.

The finalists should be congratulated for their efforts and success in promoting the industry.  The winners will be announced at the conclusion of the ASTRA 2012 Conference on 22 March 2012, providing a conclusion to what will be an exciting, informative and thought provoking day.   An excellent line-up of speakers including Donna Hay and Tiffany Cherry at the 2012 Women in Television breakfast, innovation keynote Mike Quigley, Chief Executive of NBN Co., international keynote Jeff Shell, President of NBCUniversal International and FOXTEL CEO, Richard Freudenstein will address the ASTRA 2012 conference attendees around the theme Driving Change.

The conference theme is particularly relevant for our industry now as the first quarter of 2012 sees us poised for new channel launches, potential ownership changes and restructuring, and the final outcome of the Convergence Review. We look forward to next month’s conference where the industry will once again come together to discuss current trends, hear from global experts, collaborate and celebrate this exciting time for the STV industry and  the Australian media and communications sector.
