ASTRA_Spotlight-Logo_RGB_(2)  ASTRA Spotlight Events provide a forum and resource for ASTRA members to gain access to expertise, knowledge and insight on different topics and issues, from marketing and publicity to programming, research and technology. The events aim to educate both new subscription television (STV) professionals as well as seasoned veterans, around the ever changing and growing STV environment.

Award Winning Campaigns: 15 May 2012
An opportunity for ASTRA member channel marketers and publicists to have an inside look into 2012 ASTRA Industry Excellence Award winning campaigns. Hear directly from the heads of marketing about objectives and the creative process around two stellar campaigns. Presenters will include detail on strategy as well as tactical execution. See each campaign in its entirety and the results which were used to measure success. Campaigns presented: I Believe... STUDIO at the Melbourne Festival 2011 which won for the Most Outstanding Marketing Campaign Under $50,000, presented by Jo McAlister, Head of Marketing for SBS Subscription TV; and,  the showcase campaign for Tim Winton's cloudstreet which won Most Outstanding Off-air Program Promotion and Most Outstanding PR/Communications Campaign, presented by Miranda Stojanovski, Marketing Director, Showtime Movie Channels.

Australian Content in a Converged World: 2 December 2011
Media convergence will drive an increasingly competitive media and communications environment that encourages the development of a more diverse range of new content and innovative services for consumers. Hosted by ASTRA Chairman The Honorable Steve Bracks AC, this session focused on Australian content, issues and opportunity for change that will assist in creating quality television. The panel of speakers shared their opinions and experience in working within current frameworks and helping to shape regulation which encourages competition.  Panelists included Bruce Mann, CEO, XYZnetworks, Anthony Mrsnik, Director Legal & Business Affairs, The Premium Movie Partnership (Showtime Movie Channels) and Dr Ric Simes, Director, PhD UPenn, MEc ANU, BComm (Hons) UNSW, FAICD who discussed the recent Deloitte Access Economics report. ASTRA CEO Petra Buchanan  also presented a summary of the ASTRA submission to the Convergence Review. 

Making a Difference with Your Brand: 18 October 2011
The strengths and attributes of a brand can be used to drive change, create opportunities and inspire people to take action. Three speakers presented on programs and projects they have created which are having positive effects for the media industry. The presenters shared the impetus for their initiatives and inspired the audience to think creatively about brands and their potential to engage consumers on many levels. Speakers included: Peter Jenetsky, General Manager, Content Strategy & Marketing, Movie Network Channels, Chantal Walker, Marketing Director, FOXTEL and Craig Davis, Founder Brandkarma.com, Co-chairman, Chief Creative Officer Publicis Mojo Australia NZ, and Board Member for the Communications Council and Advance.

Policy Briefing: 14 March 2011
How does government regulation affect the success of the STV industry? Subscription television’s policy experts will share the agenda for 2011 and discuss our support of regulation that is pro-investment, pro-innovation and ultimately pro-consumer, allowing STV to reach all Australians over time. Some of the key topics to be addressed include funding for Australian production, sports anti-siphoning legislation and the media convergence review. Advertising Trends: 22 November 2010
Chris Nolan, COO, Starcom MediaVest Group will present the Media Futures report, conducted by Roy Morgan, reporting on ad spend for 2010 and projections for 2011. In addition Chris will share his perspective on STV’s positioning within the new media environment, followed by a panel discussion moderated by Nikki Warburton, Group Director Product Sales & Marketing, AUSTAR. Panelists include Chris Nolan, COO, Starcom MediaVest Group, Peter Horgan, Managing Director, OMD Australia, Ian Perrin, Managing Director, Naked Communications, Damian Keogh, National Sales & Marketing Director, MCN.

STV 101: 11 August 2010
This event is designed for those who are new to subscription television as well as people wanting more detail about some of the core elements and metrics of the business. Our speakers will present on three key areas on which success is measured: distribution, audience and content, providing a basic framework from which to understand our exciting and growing industry. Digital Tracker Update: 7 April 2010
In September 2008, the Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy (DBCDE) commissioned Newspoll to undertake research into Australian households’ readiness for digital television (Digital Tracker). The fourth quarterly survey was conducted in October to December 2009, and relevant highlights will be presented.
