ASTRA_Grad-Logo_RGB_72dpi_(2)As the peak industry body for subscription television (STV), ASTRA supports and fosters emerging talent within STV channels, platforms and associated organisations.

A component of this is providing opportunities for the most creative, skilled and motivated students of broadcast and film to be exposed to, and offered training in, the STV environment.

ASTRA is pleased to collaborate with AFTRS (Australia Film, Television and Radio School) on this exciting program to provide graduate students of the AFTRS Foundation Diploma with a rare experience working with STV organisations under short-term work contracts.


About the Program

The 2014 ASTRA Graduate Program offers AFTRS Graduates from the Foundation Diploma exposure to the dynamic and growing industry of STV a chance to experience roles in everything from production to marketing to programming. Participants will gain transferable experience, build relationships and further develop career goals through a 13-week paid work contract.

The successful graduates were announced at the AFTRS Graduation Day, Friday 6th December, 2013.

Now in its third year, the 2013 ASTRA Graduate Program launched on 18 September 2012 at the Australian Film, Television and Radio School (AFTRS), Moore Park, Sydney. The program offers graduates of AFTRS Foundation Diploma the opportunity to apply for ten 13-week contracts working with one of eight STV organisations:

Fox Sports Australia
BBC Worldwide Australia
TVSN/ EXPO Channel
Disney Channels
STUDIO / World Movies
TV1/SF
Aurora Community Channel

Interviews were held in late November and the final candidates were notified in December 2012. The graduates commenced work in January/February 2013.

Who is Eligible to Apply?

The Program is open to all students graduating from AFTRS Foundation Diploma in 2012.

2013 Program Dates

Launch Event: 18 September 2012 at AFTRS
Applications Accepted: 18 September – 12 October 2012
Application Deadline: C.O.B. 12 October 2012
Interviews: 29 October – 12 November 2012
Final Selection Notified: before 30 November 2012
AFTRS Foundation Diploma Graduation: December 2012
Employment Term: 4 February – 3 May 2013 (TBC)
